What We Do

The Arts Infusion Project provides teachers at 5 at-risk elementary schools and 1 at-risk middle school with high quality, sustained professional development to effectively instruct their students in the arts and arts standards. It utilizes the professional development in the arts to enhance student understanding and engagement in other core academic areas, such as math, literacy/language arts, science, and social studies.

How We Do It

Teaching artists from Sierra Arts Foundation and master music teachers from WCSD train teachers in the classroom, at after-school arts academies and Saturday trainings using a variety of training techniques, including the coaching model, placing teaching artists in the classroom, and ArtBoxes, a school-based arts education curriculum aligned with the arts standards and directly aligned with the WCSD, state, and national academic standards. Mindful Music is an original program, designed by the master music teachers, where classroom teachers, ESL and music teachers learn instructional practices that assist LEP students with language acquisition and development.
