Special Session and Budget Information

Nevada lawmakers began a special session on February 23, to balance the 2009-10 biennium budget. The Governor reaffirmed that he would not raise taxes to close the almost $900 million budget shortfall. He was clear that higher education and K-12 cuts would be part of his plan to balance the budget.

Information on 2009 Legislature


The 75th Regular Session of the Nevada Legislature adjourned sine die at 12:24 AM on June 2, 2009. Please find below a link to a document intended to provide a quick reference to the newly enacted statutes passed by the 2009 Legislature that affect K-12 education in Nevada. The document does not provide the
specific details needed, in many cases, to carry out the requirements of the statutes. Each bill as
enrolled should be referred to when specific wording and requirements to the statute changes are
desired. The full text of each enrolled bill can be found on the Nevada Legislative Home Page at

 The cornerstone of the K-12 community's legislative agenda is contained in a plan called iNVest '09. Now in its third revision, it is supported by the WCSD Board of Trustees and all other school boards in the state, by all 17 Superintendents and by the Nevada Department of Education.
