Duncan Fifth Graders Go to Nevada Legislature
What: Ten fifth grade representatives of Duncan Elementary School will make a
presentation to the Assembly Committee on Education with the use of data from keynote
speeches about education within the past few years.
When: The meeting begins at 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 9. Students are expected to present at 4
p.m. Media representatives are encouraged to be at the meeting no later than 3:30 p.m.
Where: Nevada Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St. in room 3142, Carson City
Why: A video presentation will show Duncan students pre-recorded in their examination
of the demographic difference between some Washoe County schools and the disparity
between Adequate Yearly Progress targets. The representatives will conclude their
presentation by drawing connections between their career aspirations and the quality of
education they need to achieve their dreams.
Who: Duncan Principal Susan Kehoe and STEM coordinator Jason Shipman will
accompany the students.
