Celebration Planned for Galena High School Student

Reno, NV (March 24, 2011) - Friends, family and teachers of Maison T. Ortiz, a Galena High School student who passed away in January following a snowboarding accident, will be a holding The Maison T. Ortiz Celebration of Life Walk/Run on Sunday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at Bartley Ranch Park in Reno. The event is a 5k fun walk/run.

The idea for the celebration began with Maison's former elementary school teacher, Cheryl Raybourn.  Raybourn taught Maison and his siblings at Elizabeth Lenz Elementary School in Reno. Proceeds from the celebration will go to a memorial in Maison's name at the Lenz library.

"The idea behind the walk/run is to celebrate Maison. With the outpouring of love and support from friends, family and the community, it has turned into much more, allowing us to create a memorial at the school in his name," said Raybourn.

Participants can register on the event website at IrunforMaison.com or the day of the race from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Bartley Ranch Park. Registration fees are $10 per person or $25 per family. Following the walk/run, participants can participate in a celebration at the park. For those who cannot make the event but would like to make a contribution, donations can be mailed to Ailene Azzam, Lenz Elementary School, 2500 Homeland Drive, Reno, Nevada 89511.
