Townhall Meetings Set to Gather Feedback About the Board of Trustees Redistricting Process

Reno, NV (Oct. 13, 2011) - The Washoe County School District's Board of Trustees is currently involved in the redistricting process and will be gathering public input during the next two weeks. This is the process by which the boundaries of elective districts are periodically redrawn to maintain equal representation based on population. The redistricting process, which is required by state law, determines the geographical area that each board member represents as an elected official.

Randy Drake, Chief General Counsel for WCSD and the person in charge of the redistricting project for the District, says the process began earlier this year. "The map proposals have been presented to the Board of Trustees on two different occasions during the month of August. The Trustees directed our staff to get as much community and stakeholder input as possible before bringing back the final recommendations to the Board in November."

A community-wide survey will be launched next week and the District will be holding five townhall meetings during the next two weeks. This will allow all interested stakeholders an opportunity to view the map proposals being discussed by the Board and provide input on the proposals and process.

The survey will be available at the beginning of next week and can be accessed at http://www.washoecountyschools.org/trustees/redistricting.

The five townhall meetings will begin on Monday, Oct. 17 and run through Thursday, Oct. 27 at the following school locations:
