Reed Raiders Going for State Football Title Saturday
Season Ends on a High Note for Fall Sports
Reno, NV (Dec. 2, 2011) - High school football will take center stage on Saturday as the North battles the South for the 4A high school football championship. The Reed Raiders will face Bishop Gorman on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 12:15 p.m. at Damonte Ranch High School.
The Raiders, under Coach Ernie Howren, finished the season at 12-1, which is a school record for wins in a season. Howren says he hopes to see a big crowd come out to cheer on Saturday. "The last and only time Reed played for a state championship in football President Reagan was in the White House. That was in 1983 and oddly enough our opponent will be the same as we face the Bishop Gorman Gaels."
WCSD Coordinator of Athletics and Activities Ken Cass said the hard work of the student athletes was evident all season long. "We are so proud of the Reed football team for claiming their second northern region title in the last three years. Coach Howren has built an outstanding program and we look forward to watching his team compete for a state title this Saturday."
The fall season wrapped up with many other victories for high school teams that competed in regional and state championships. The Sparks boys soccer team won the 3A state championship. Sparks High Athletic Director Rob Kittrell says becoming state champions was great pay-off after an amazing season. "The Railroaders were Sierra League Champions with a league record of 11 wins, zero losses, one tie and finished with an overall record of 23 wins. This was the school's first ever soccer state championship."
