WCSD Comes Out On Top in Educational Technology Grant

Reno, NV (December 9, 2011)- The Nevada State Educational Technology Commission awarded Washoe County School District $688,232. The District will use these funds to support three projects over the next two years. These projects include:
• Point-to-Point Videoconferencing in Professional Development and Learning will provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment to deliver content and allow for interactive learning opportunities for teachers and students as this solution is deployed across the district.
• A 21st Century skills/tools integration project will provide professional development and iPad carts to several high school classrooms.
• The ActivTrainer program will continue to support our teachers with introductory workshops and ongoing support using their interactive whiteboards.

The State Ed Tech Implementation Grant is a competitive grant for which all Nevada school districts apply every two years. Washoe's application was given the top score and the District received most (65%) of what was requested. These projects will help the District address all of the Common Core State Standards and Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium practices. Additionally, these projects are aligned to the WCSD Strategic Plan, the WCSD Technology Plan, the State of Nevada Technology Plan, and the ISTE NETS-S.

Another grantee's project, Elko (e4e) will benefit all Nevada school districts. This award will fund the eLearning for Educators online professional development courses. This project is a partnership between the school districts of Elko, Washoe County, and KNPB Channel 5.
