WCSD Performance Framework
In July 2011, the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees adopted an accountability policy to help carry out the District’s strategic plan, Envision WCSD 2015 – Investing In Our Future. In the months that followed, a committee of principals, assistant principals, teachers, support staff, parents, and community members worked to develop a new school performance framework that would help to communicate the progress being made toward the goals in the District’s strategic plan.
WCSD unveiled its performance framework during the 2013 State of Education Address on January 29, 2013. The Washoe County School District Performance Framework (WCSD-PF) is a tool for monitoring the progress of schools. It uses numerous measures of performance to categorize schools in a five-star system. This information allows the District to identify the successes and challenges at each school and to better support schools by providing targeted assistance and resources based on the school’s individual needs.
This new accountability model also is a part of the District’s efforts to increase transparency by making school data and information readily available to the community. The framework is not meant as a judgment or labeling device. Rather, it is a vehicle for improvement. It is intended to provide a description of where WCSD can direct its support and educational efforts to most effectively guide “Every Child, by Name and Face, to Graduation.”
