Student Support Services
Our Mission Statement:
Washoe County School District, Student Support Services will provide the support needed to ensure the educational, intellectual, social/emotional and vocational development of students with disabilities to enable them to participate in, and be productive members of, society.
Our Beliefs:
All students can learn and all students have a right to an appropriate education in the least restrictive environment, making it possible for them to benefit from their educational program and school experiences.
Students with disabilities should be educated in their neighborhood schools and included in our general education environment with non-disabled peers when appropriate. The WCSD Special Education Department must provide support to schools so that staffs have the opportunity to appropriately educate students with disabilities. Local schools staff shall make every effort to educate students with disabilities in their school setting in an appropriate manner with necessary supports.
An appropriate education for students with disabilities is best achieved through a team effort that includes parents, school personnel, and, when appropriate, representatives from other agencies and organizations with interest in the students welfare.
