Highlighted Volunteer Opportunities
Many volunteers choose to help at a school that is nearby their home, school, or work. The district map can familiarize you with the schools in our district. It is also important to try to decide if you have a preference for working with elementary, middle, high school, or a particular group of students. Read & Succeed- Kindergarten Through 6th Grade/RTI Tier 2 Intervention
One-on-one academic read-aloud, focusing on fluency and comprehension. After training, volunteers help students who are reading below grade level, under the instruction of a teacher. Volunteers must like reading books, enjoy working with children, and be competent to read at a sixth grade level.
Math Paths- Kindergarten Through 3rd Grade/RTI Tier 2 Intervention
Math Paths provides one-on-one math tutoring for students. Tutors are taught numerous games to assist children struggling in math.
AmeriCorps VISTA- Volunteers in Service to America
WCSD VISTA members build recruitment opportunities, assist in screening, training and placement of volunteers, assist in program fund raising, help with volunteer recognition events, incentive book drives, and developing systems for improving volunteer placement in schools.
Middle and High School Academic Tutors- RTI Tier 2 Intervention
Individual tutoring help for struggling Middle and High School students.
What is RTI?
The Response to Intervention system provides early intervention for at-risk students and focuses on providing high quality instruction to all students.
AVID- High School
Assists High School students in meeting the challenges of attaining the dream of college.
Early Childhood Education
Giving children access to a variety of high-quality, developmentally appropriate programs.
Field Experience/Practicum
All of the information and forms necessary for practicums and field experiences in the schools.
