Lena Juniper's Science Fair will be here soon. It's time to get started on projects, inventions or displays.
Projects may be done by individuals or groups of 2 or 3 students. Parents are encouraged to support their child's efforts, but all work is to be done by the students. Science projects utilize the scientific method in attempting to solve a problem or reach a conclusion. A project that is a simple model, report, or display will not be considered for advancement to the Regional Science Fair.
Usually the most difficult problem connected with the Science Fair is choosing science projects. We invite both parents and students to use our school library materials in planning projects or visit www.scifair.org for more ideas and hints. The public library is another resource, as well as science television programs, youth organization materials, and even business and community members. Science projects can cover engineering, mathematics, chemistry, biology, ecology, energy, technology, or any area that requires scientific study.
Remember that good projects are not usually done the night before the Science Fair. Judges look at science notebooks or on the display board to determine if students have made long-term observations and have used the scientific methods.
The two other options available are the invention or display if students would like a different approach to study science. These two options offer a simpler and fun approach to the Science Fair without any formal requirements for judging.
For students interested in completing a science project, invention, or display a Science Fair packet is available. This includes specific information on rules, project ideas, steps of the scientific method, parental help, and judging criteria.
We hope to see you and your project at Lena Juniper's Annual Math/Science Night open to all our families on Thursday, March 1st, from 5 - 7 PM. Come join in the fun!

Juniper Families, please take the time to thank your child's teacher. As principal, I know how hard they work and the awesome task they have of educating children. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful teachers who continue to go above and beyond to make the educational experience for each child positive and meaningful.
