Mrs. Lena Juniper was born in Nelsonville Ohio, March 13, 1884. She attended Ohio University at Athens and taught school in Ohio prior to her marriage in 1911 to John Guy Juniper. John Guy and Lena Juniper moved to Reno in 1924. She taught in the Washoe County School District from 1924, at Robert Mitchell School in Sparks, until her retirement in 1931. She returned to teaching at McKinley Park School from 1945 and continued until 1950. She served as the Grand Matron of the Nevada Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star during its Golden Anniversary year of 1954. She was a member of the past Matrons Association, Toiyabe Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Twentieth Century Club of Reno, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Golden Age Club. Lena Juniper Elementary School was named after her in September of 1965. |
