Block S Paints the "S" Yesterday we did it! 75 gallons of paint, 30 mops and some motivated Railroaders made it happen. The “S” was been up there since 1925, and will be there a lot longer then we will be around. We did our part to continue this wonderful hometown tradition. On behalf of the Block S Club, I would like to thank all who helped out with the planning, donating of supplies, and with the actual elbow grease in getting it done. p.s. Our students are amazing!

Envision WCSD 2015 – Investing In Our Future The Washoe County School District’s strategic plan, Envision WCSD 2015 – Investing In Our Future, calls for important reforms to our school calendar to ensure that we are meeting the education needs of all students. Specifically, the plan pledges to provide “high-quality instruction that will be differentiated and engaging, and those students who need additional support will receive targeted interventions to ensure academic success…[and] students who are succeeding and excelling will receive opportunities to achieve even more.” To meet this goal, a district-wide balanced calendar that maximizes student learning and achievement for all students was approved by the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees on February 28, 2012 and again on January 28, 2013. There are four key goals the new district-wide calendar must meet to best serve WCSD students:
Throughout the year, parents, students and staff will be asked to provide feedback on the balanced calendar so that the Trustees have many data points on which to base their next calendar decision. Envision WCSD 2015 – Investing In Our Future Para cumplir con este objetivo, el Coonsejo Directivo y Administrativo del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Washoe, aprobó el 28 de febrero del 2012 y de nuevo el 28 de enero del 2013 un calendario equilibrado para todo el distrito que maximiza el aprendizaje y los logros de todos los estudiantes. El plan estratégico del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Washoe, Envision WCSD 2015 – Investing In Our Future- Invertir en nuestro futuro, pide reformas importantes en nuestro calendario escolar para asegurar que estamos cumpliendo con las necesidades educativas de todos los estudiantes. El plan se compromete específicamente, en brindar “instrucción de alta calidad será diferenciada y comprometida, y los estudiantes que necesitan ayuda adicional recibirán intervenciones específicas para garantizar éxitos académicos... [y] los estudiantes que están teniendo éxito y sobresaliendo recibirán oportunidades para lograr aún más”. 8 April 2013 My Beloved Sparks High School Community, It is with a humble heart at this bittersweet time that I inform you of my decision to step down as principal of Sparks High School to take on new professional challenges working to support all members of our educational community. My three years at Sparks High School have truly been an incredible journey with numerous successes and challenges. It is my hope that the school community maintains its focus on building teachers to capacity, increasing student academic performance, and to build collegiality among parents, students, teachers, and our community. While the district has not announced a new principal, I know that the school community will embrace and collaborate with the new principal to ensure a smooth transition. As I will be transitioning into my new role, I will continue to work through the end of the 2012-2013 school year. If there is anything that you need before I leave, please let me know. On that note, I am confident that under the leadership of the new principal, Sparks High will continue to be a place where excellence is attainable. As I look forward to my new assignment, please note that there will always be a special place in my heart for the Sparks High School Community. I wish you all peace, good health, and success. 8 Abril 2013 Queridísima comunidad latina de la Escuela Preparatoria de Sparks: Con humildad y tristeza, en este momento tan agridulce para mí, les informo de mi decisión de renunciar al puesto de Directora de la Escuela Preparatoria de Sparks para asumir nuevos retos profesionales con mi nuevo trabajo de apoyo a todos los miembros de nuestra comunidad educativa. Mis tres años en SHS han sido verdaderamente una experiencia increíble con numerosos éxitos y desafíos. Deseo de todo corazón que la comunidad escolar siga manteniendo su enfoque en mejorar el profesorado, aumentar el desarrollo académico del estudiante y crear un ambiente de colegialidad entre padres, alumnos, maestros y nuestra comunidad. Aunque el distrito escolar no ha anunciado todavía a un nuevo Director, sé que la comunidad escolar recibirá con los brazos abiertos y colaborará con el nuevo director para asegurar una transición sin problemas. Mientras hago la transición a mi nuevo trabajo, seguiré trabajando en la escuela hasta el final del año escolar 2012-2013. Si hay algo que necesitan antes de irme, háganmelo saber. Confío en que bajo el liderazgo del nuevo Director/a, SHS seguirá siendo un lugar donde la excelencia académica se pueda alcanzar.
