 TMCC and Sparks High Students

SHS juniors and seniors are most grateful to Dr. Sheehan, President of TMCC, for taking time out of her day to speak with them about student responsibility, the importance of getting an education, how to stay on track by following their curriculum road map, preparing for the Accuplacer, how to manage their finances, how to utilize college resources once on campus, and much more.  Afterwards. Dr. Sheehan addressed additional questions regarding programs that are being offered at TMCC and their summer bridge program.

Dr. Sheehan, thank you for serving as a guiding light to our young scholars.

Congratulations SHS Graduate

Thanks to the WCSD graduation initiative, a fellow Railroader has earned her diploma through the newly established re-engagement centers. The new graduate receives her diploma from SHS registrar, Greg Shugar.

MATH 96 offered at area high schools in Spring by the University of Nevada, Reno...

In October 2011 the Washoe County School District offered the Accuplacer, a college math placement test, to seniors as part of an initiative to improve college preparedness.  As a result, the University of Nevada, Reno has created three sections of MATH 96 at area high schools to take place during Spring as an option for seniors whose Accuplacer scores placed them into MATH 96.

MATH 96 is a preparatory 3 credit, pass/fail course that does not apply toward a University of Nevada, Reno diploma, but which is a prerequisite for university Core Math.  In passing MATH 96, students are eligible to enroll in MATH 120 OR MATH 126, one of which is required for a bachelor’s degree in Nevada.  By taking MATH 96 during the spring semester of their senior year, students will have a head start on their college math while taking advantage of reduced tuition for the course.  MATH 96 will be offered for a discounted $300 for these spring classes only (including course materials), which is a savings of over $200!  For more information on how to register, please contact Danielle Townsend in the Freshman Start office at 775-784-4652.

Course offerings are listed below:

MATH 96 at McQueen High School:

  • February 21-May 3, 2012
  • Tues./Thurs. from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

MATH 96 at Spanish Springs High School:

  • Tues./Thurs. from 2:45-4:45 p.m.
