High School Signature Academies

About the Signature Academies 

Washoe County School District's Signature Academies are an innovative approach to ensuring college and career readiness for all students.  This initiative creates career- and industry-based programs at each comprehensive high school over the next four years.   The Signature Academies will focus on specific programs, topics and distinguishing themes to prepare all students for the workforce of tomorrow. 

Applications are Still being Accepted

(for Hug Health Sciences Academy, Sparks Microsoft IT Academy of Excellence, Spanish Springs Cougar Academy of Media Arts & Communications, Wooster Sustainable Resources Academy and Damonte Ranch Performing Arts Center only.   Reno Red House Project, McQueen Global Studies and Reed STARS Academy are no longer taking new applications.  Students with applications in progress will be allowed to complete them.)

Academies and Programs Currently Open:

Academies Opening Fall 2012:

  • The Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Damonte Ranch High School
    • Programs of study will be offered in Instrumental and Vocal Music, Dance and Theater
    • *** Music auditions will take place in early May of 2012. For further information, please contact the PAC at (775) 851-5656***
    • *** A second Dance Audition has been scheduled for students who are still interested in participating in dance.  It will be held at Damonte Ranch HS on Saturday, June 2nd, from 11 am to 2 pm.  Please contact Ms. Bauman at SBauman@washoeschools.net for additional details. ***

  • The Health Sciences Academy at Hug High School
    • Students will take courses and explore careers in the health sciences field, including medicine, nursing, dentistry, and sports medicine.

  • The Success Through Applied Relevant Studies (S.T.A.R.S) Career and Technical Education Academy at Edward Reed High School
    • Programs of study will be offered in Culinary Arts, Metalworking & Design, and Automotive Technology

  • The Red House Project, a Digital Technologies Academy at Reno High School
    • Programs of study will be offered in Web Design, Video Production, 3D Animation, and Graphics and Digital Game Development.  Marketing and Enterpreneurship content area will also be components of the programs.
