From the principal... Thank you so much to everyone that attended "Bring Someone Special to School" day. The students were so excited to have you here! Thank you to everyone that contributed to our Homeless Shelter Community Service Drive and to the sixth grade students for assembling and delivering over 75 holiday toiletry bags. Our Daily 5 reading block is up and running smoothly and our primary teachers love it! They are creating independent learners... Mrs. Geil

PARENTS...for the safety of your children and district rules, no parents are allowed to go to a classroom or anywhere in the school without checking in at the office first. Thank you for your help in keeping your children safe.

HALLOWEEN CANDY DRIVE ...Thanks to everyone who participated in the Halloween Candy Drive. We collected 75 POUNDS of candy and donated it to the Volunteers of America Homeless Shelter in Reno.

ANGEL TREE...your child will be bringing home an ornament from the school's Angel tree. We are asking only those who wish to do so, to contribute back to the school the dollar amount indicated on the ornament. This is a wonderful way for our Verdi Family to help those in need this Holiday Season.

CHRISTMAS TREES ...are being sold by our wonderful VERDI VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT located just across the street from the school. Firemen will be available to help you load a tree on to your car Monday-Thursdays 3-6 p.m. and Fridays 1-6 p.m. Help support our local Fire Department!

HOLIDAY SHOP ...Mark your calendars! Students are invited to come shop for family members at Verdi Elementary School's annual Holiday Gift Shop on Saturday, December 10th from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the multi-purpose room. There will be a variety of gifts priced $5 or less.

PARENT FACULTY ASSOCIATION (PFA) ...Our next meeting will be Tuesday, December 13th at 3:30 pm. Babysitting will be provided.

MUSIC PROGRAM...is planned for 2nd and 3rd graders Tuesday, December 20th at 11:00 am. here in the multi-purpose room.

SKI LESSONS AT MT. ROSE SKI RESORT ...Mt. Rose Ski resort is offering discounted group ski and snowboard lessons to all students and siblings. The lessons are on Sundays. Rosebuds from 9:00 am - 11:00 am / Rippers from 10:00 am -11:30 am. Please call Jennifer Cannell at (831) 325-0415 for more information.

Box Tops for Education / Campbell's Labels for Education / Model Dairy UPC Code Panels ... Please submit to the office your Box Tops, Campbell's Labels and Model Dairy UPC Code Panels in sandwich Ziploc bags with your child's name and teacher written on the bag. Every student who turns them in a Ziploc bag with their name and teacher written on it will receive a prize.

SPIRIT WEAR ...Verdi Spirit Wear is still available in the office for purchase. Don't forget to send your child to school on Fridays in their Verdi Wear to receive a treat during last recess!

6th Graders ...have performed 131 hours of community service here at the school for the month of October. Once again another record has been broken. Way to go 6th grade!!!

What's Happening in Fourth grade ...Students performed the play "Stone Soup" for Bring a Special Person to School Day". Check out the Indian Corn Art in the hallway! 4th graders went to the Nevada Museum of Art to see Altered Landscapes and the last viewing of the Lady in the Blue Dress using our Free Membership Pass from PFA. We encourage all students to go again and bring their parents.

VERDI COMMUNITY LIBRARY ...The public hours for the library are now Wednesday from 3pm-7pm and Saturday from 10am-4pm. As of December 1st students will be charged $0.10 per day and adults will be charged $0.25 per day for all overdue library materials. Please remember to turn in your library materials on time or renew your library materials to avoid accruing overdue fines.

Hot Lunch News ...We want to be sure your child receives the full lunch menu they are entitled to. Parents, please review with your child when going thru the hot lunch line, they are asked to take a minimum of One Entrée and Two items such as a fruit, vegetable, milk, or whole grain snack (crackers).

Girl Scouts ...There will be a meeting for Kindergarten thru 3rd graders here at Verdi on Wednesday, December 14th from 5 to 7 p.m. Look for a flyer coming home with your child.

NO SCHOOL ...The holiday break begins Monday, December 26th thru Friday, January 6th. School resumes on Monday, January 9th. Have a wonderful Holiday!
