Valentines... The office has some cool prizes donated for Valentine's Day. One such prize is a 3 foot tall stuffed pony, donated by Wells Fargo. We will be selling raffle tickets for .50 cents beginning Monday, February 1st. Students can buy raffle tickets all week and the drawing for all the prizes will be on Friday, February 12th. Students and parents can see the prizes displayed in the office.

Early Release... The next early release will be Friday, February 12th. Students will go home at 1:05 and Kindergarten will be released at 10:55. This release will then be the followed by NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 15th in honor of Presidents Day.

Science Festival... The annual festival will be Tuesday, February 16th. All projects are due on Friday, February 12th. Plan to attend the festival here at the school from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Our children love to show their projects and inventions, so please be sure to come.

Pizza Day... The next pizza day will be Thursday, February 25th. Watch for a flyer to come home.

Public Library... Our P.F.A. is soon addressing the possibility of our Public Library reducing their hours due to budget cuts. Should you have any questions, feel free to call the office.

CRT Testing... March 1st thru the 5th is testing. The 3rd graders thru 6th grade will be testing. Please keep these dates in mind when scheduling doctor's appointments etc. Have your children here at school on time and be sure they get plenty of sleep, a good breakfast and a big hug to start each day.

F.Y.I... As some of you may unfortunately know, the Sheriff's office has been monitoring the school speed zones and our parking lot. You will get a ticket. The ONLY exception to this is the kindergarten parents may PICK UP in the parking lot at 11:45. With 90% of our children jumpoing on and off the buses before and after school, the parking lot needs to stay clear of any other vehicles.

Announcements... Congratulations to Stoch Peterson, 1st grader, for placing 1st in the Cub Scouts, Pinewood Derby. Way to go Stosh!

Congratulations... and thank you to the 5th graders for successfully completing the 5th grade Writing tests. You did a great job.

FUN RUN 2010... The 19th annual Verdi Elementary School Fun Run will be Friday, May 21, 2010. All students have been invited to participate in designing our 2010 Fun Run t-shirt. All artwork entries must be turned into the office no later than Friday, February 5th, 2010. We ask our students to seek pledges from friends and relatives to sponsor them (with a donation to our school) for participating in the Fun Run. All students are awarded a t-shirt for their efforts. More information to follow soon.

Parents... If your business or the company you work for would like to be a "Corporate Sponsor" and have their business name & logo appear on the back of the Fun Run t-shirt, please contact Jennifer Cannell at 530-479-0111 or at jcannellpyle@yahoo.com. Extra t-shirts may be purchased for adults and/or siblings.

P.F.A... The next P.F.A. meeting will be Tuesday, February 9th at 3:25. Babysitting will be provided. If you are unable to attend the PFA meetings you can read the minutes from the meetings on the Verdi Elementary School website (www.washoecountyschools.org/verdi/). Preliminary judging will take place for the Fun Run t-shirts.

BOX TOPS DUE BY MONDAY FEBRUARY 2ND... Box Tops for Education can be returned into the office or your teacher! Box Tops can be found on Betty Crocker, Ziploc, Cheerios, Hefty, Chex, Green Giant, Fruit Roll Ups, Pillsbury, Huggies, Kleenex, and Nature Valley... jsut to name a few! For a complete listing, please go to: www.boxtops4education.com. Please submit Box Tops in sandwich Ziploc bags with your child's name and teacher written on the bag. Every student that turns in Box Tops in a Ziploc bag with their name and teacher written on it will receive a mystery prize!

REDUCED PRICE... All Occasion Finishing Touch Wrapping Paper by American Greetings is for sale in the office for $2 a roll. This is a great deal!

MODEL DAIRY UPC CODE PANELS... Model Dairy Cash For Cartons Program will give Verdi E.S. $250 for every 1000 UPC coded panels we collect from Model Dairy products. All you have to do is cut out the UPC code panel from any Model Dairy product pint size or larger and turn them into the office. Verdi E.S. has been collecting Model Dairy UPC code panels for several years and we almost have 1000 UPC code panels to submit. Please turn in your UPC code panels form the Model Dairy products you use at home to help us reach 1000 UPC code panels this school year.

REMINDER... Howard's Chevron Smog Service (4th and Galletti) will donate $5 to Verdi E.S. for every Smog receipt submitted to the school office.
