THE VERDI COMMUNITY LIBRARY AND NATURE CENTERThe Verdi Community Library and Nature Center is home to three entities:
After school and on weekends, the building becomes the Verdi branch of the Washoe County Public Library system and community center open to the general public. The building was built with grants and donations from the community and completed in October 2002. The building is a beautiful addition to the Verdi Community with an emphasis on nature, complete with an aquarium of fish native to the Truckee River; and murals and animal mounts depicting the environment and animals indigenous to the Truckee River corridor.

Audio Book Downloads through the Washoe County Library System: washoecounty.lib.overdrive.com Verdi Elementary School LibraryThe mission of the Verdi School Library is to prepare all Verdi School students to become independent, lifelong learners in our world of information, and to foster in all students a love of reading and literature.Verdi students are taught the library skills necessary to assist them in being able to independently locate, gather and analyze information from a wide array of resources available to them today, i.e. books, reference materials and online resources. Library instruction follows the corresponding Nevada State Curriculum Standards for English/Language Arts for each grade level. Students are exposed to all forms of literature and reading materials with an emphasis on the pleasure of reading. Our goal is to foster in all students a love of reading and literature. The Library supports and encourages the Accelerated Reading Program and both the Public Library and School Library are concentrating on expanding the number of Accelerated Reader books and quizzes available to the students. The School Library is fortunate to have the Public Library as a partner enabling us access to the materials available in all twelve Public Libraries. Staff and students are encouraged to use the Public Library's database and materials. |
