MARCH 2010 CALENDAR & NEWSLETTER![]() March NewsletterAloha Verdi Families... Kicking of March, our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders will be taking CRT's. These are State required tests which provide information in ranking our high achieving school. It is very important that your student is here on time, has eaten a good breakfast and gets a good night sleep for this week. Followed by this will be our reading week March 15th - 19th. This year's reading week will emphasize cultures from around the world. We are in the planning stages of scheduling but it will be a fun filled week with author presentations, reading contests and pajama/pizza parties. Watch for the details coming home soon. Aloha- Trish Gerbo Science Fair Festival Winners... the following students are winners of the Verdi Science Festival and will be showing their projects in the Regional Science Fair March 26-27, 2010 at the Lawlor Events Center: Madison Moore, Ty Maker, Matt Archibald, Jackson Cole, Mikayla Shults, Jacob Cole, Rylee Ries, Cameron Aro, Trenton Sorge, Anna Benedict, Alice Benedict, Seralyn Trimbach, Zach Driesner, Sydney Palmer, Cassie Eckroth, Warner, Erickson, and Plowden's class projects. Congratulations to... Katy and Paige Dupriest, 1st graders, have been chosen by Renown Children's Miracle Network and Renown Children's Hospital to be the ambassadors for the state of Nevada. As the CMN Champions, Katy and Paige will travel with their family to Washington, D.C. this June where they will be recognized for helping raise awareness for CMN. Another Congratulations to... 4th grade student, Corrie Peterson who ranked 20th out of 102 students who participated in the district wide Math Matters challenge. Spring Pictures... will be Friday, March 26th and this will also be an early release day. Fun Run... This year's Fun Run is Friday, May 21, 2010. This is our annual spring fundraising event. We ask businesses from around our community to help sponsor us by donating money so all students can have a Fun Run t-shirt. In exchange, the businesses get their company logo on the back of approximately 300 t-shirts. If you are interested in helping sponsor this event, please call Jennifer Cannell at 530-479-0111 or at jcannellpyle@yahoo.com. P.F.A... The next P.F.A. meeting will be Tuesday March 9th at 3:25. Babysitting will be provided. If you are unable to attend the PFA meetings you can read the minutes from the meetings which have been posted on the Verdi Elementary School website www.washoecountyschools.org/verdi/pfa.html. WCSD Parent Technology Cafe 2010... The third annual Technology Café is March 16, 2010 from 4:30-6:45pm at Truckee Meadows Community College Student Center, Red Mountain Bldg. Parents who are interested in learning how technology is being used in the school district and about the future of technology in education are invited to attend. Each school has been given 10 Golden Tickets for parents who wish to attend. If you are interested in attending the Technology Café please see Julie in the office to receive your ticket. Verdi Spirit Wear... Spring is coming and we still have some great Verdi t-shirts available in the office. Prices are great so stop by and buy one today! Another price reduction... All Occasion Finishing Touch Wrapping Paper by American Greetings is for sale in the office for $1 a roll. The following patterns are still available: 10 Pet Presents Reversible Rolls, 4 Bubble Frog Rolls, 11 Vintage Sports Reversible Rolls, and 7 Rose Trellis Rolls. Box Tops... Box Tops for Education can be turned into the office or your child's teacher. Please submit Box Tops in sandwich Ziploc bags with your child's name and teacher written on the bag. Every student that turns in Box Tops in a Ziploc bag with their name and teacher written on it will receive a prize in June. Box Tops can be found on Betty Crocker, Ziploc, Cheerios, Hefty, Chex, Green Giant, Fruit Roll Ups, Pillsbury, Huggies, Kleenex and Nature Valley... just to name a few! Howard's Chevron Smog Service (4th and Galletti) will donate $5 to Verdi Elementary School for every Smog receipt submitted to the school office. Model Dairy UPC Code Panels... Please continue to collect Model Dairy UPC Code Panels and turn them into the office or your child's teacher. Model Dairy Cash For Cartons Program will give Verdi Elementary School $250 for every 1000 UPC code panels we collect from Model Dairy products. All you have to do is cut out the UPC code panel from any Model Dairy product pint size or larger and turn them into the office. Verdi E.S. has been collecting Model Dairy UPC code panels for several years and we almost have 1000 UPC code panels to submit. Please turn in your UPC code panels from the Model Dairy products you use at home to help us reach 1000 UPC code panels this school year. Verdi Community Library Events...
