Principal News...We would like to extend our thanks to Mary McDonald for her years of service to Verdi Elementary and we wish her the best. We also will be saying goodbye to Mrs. Hansford, our Kindergarten assistant, and thank her for helping us facilitate our first year of full day kindergarten. Mr. Baker will be full time at McQueen High School next year, so, we will be hiring a new music teacher this summer. We wish him the best and thank him for his dedication to Verdi Elementary. In order to promote McQueen High School's Global Studies Signature Program, Billinghurst M.S., Verdi Elementary and Rollan Melton Elementary will be offering Mandarin Chinese during the 2013-2014 school year. At Verdi, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students will be receiving this instruction. Yahoo! Families of these students will be notified of an informational night in the near future.

Retirement...It is with great sadness that we will be saying goodbye to our longtime friend, facility coordinator, Pete Schuster. Pete has chosen to retire at the end of this school year. Pete has been with the school district for 27 years! We are having a retirement party for Pete on May 31st at the Hacienda Mexican Restaurant on MaeAnne and McCarran from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and invite you to stop by and wish him the best. He will be GREATLY missed!

Yearbook...There is still time left if you would like to place an add in our annual yearbook. Cost is only $15 for a business card ad, $25 for a 1/2 page ad, or $50 for a full page ad. Simply send in or bring to the office your business card and payment.

BASKIN ROBBINS ICE CREAM SOCIAL ...Bring your family and friends and enjoy a sweet treat with the Verdi Community on Wednesday May 15th from 2:30-9:00 pm. Baskin Robbins at 5150 Mae Anne Ave. in the Ridgeview Plaza Shopping Center between Kohl's & Safeway will donate 15% of the total sales to Verdi Elementary School when a flyer is presented upon ordering. The class that has the most student participation will win an ice cream party from Baskin Robbins. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SCHOOL CALENDAR HAS THE ICE CREAM FUNDRAISER ON TUESDAY MAY 14TH. SOS Camp ...our 6th grade class will be taking off on Tuesday, May 7th to attend the annual science camp in Sonora, Ca. They will return on Friday, May 10th. Congratulations 6th grade and have a wonderful trip .

PFA ...our next meeting will be Tuesday, May 7th at 3:30 p.m. We invite all parents to get involved in your child's school. The PFA board is inviting parents to join. So step up and give us a call or come to our next meeting. Remember... "It takes a village".

Staff Appreciation Week ...Monday, May 13th thru Friday, May 17th is Staff Appreciation Week. Please take a moment to thank a teacher, staff member, bus driver for their hard work this year.

FUN RUN...is coming up! Friday, May 17th is our annual Fun Run race. Your student is bringing home today pledge cards to help raise money for this run. Parent Volunteers please plan on arriving by 9:30 a.m. A barbecue lunch will be provided so plan on staying to eat with us.

5th Grade Great American ...Student presentations will be Thursday, May 23rd beginning around 9:30 a.m. Parents/family will be invited to stay afterwards to attend a Great American Lunch!

Strategies Class...will be going on a swimming pool party field trip, Thursday, May 23rd from 9:15 to 12:00 p.m!

No School...on Monday, May 27th in honor of Memorial Day!

Garbage Bags For Sale...With the arrival of our spring weather, it is time for yard clean-up! We have the bags for you! For only $20 you can buy 100 - 33 gallon large bags or for $15 - 250 large kitchen bags. See Julie in the office.

6th Grade Community Hours...A big thank you to our wonderful 6th graders for performing 88.75 hours of community service for the month of April. Also we want to congratulate this wonderful class for their hard work on collecting food items every month for our homeless shelter and the shoe drive for the children of Africa. Not to mention the countless hours they have put in assisting around our school as reading tutors, staff helpers and working at the volunteer breakfast. They Rock!
