Thank you to everyone that helped with the Pumpkin Patch, especially our fabulous PFA!! It takes a village!! We are continuing with our Professional Development on MAP (Measure of Academic Progress), Higher Level Questioning , Differentiated Instruction and Common Core State Standards. Our teachers are going above and beyond to prepare our students for the Common Core State Testing that will be implemented in 2014! PUMPKIN PATCH...Thank you to all the Verdi families for attending and volunteering at the Pumpkin Patch this year. The success of our Pumpkin Patch is due to the volunteers. This year our gross income was $20,000. After expenses, we made $15,700. WOW!!!

Verdi Elementary Community Outreach Drive ...Beginning Tuesday, November 1st we are asking our Verdi families to help us collect items for the Homeless Center. Items we will be collecting are shampoo/ conditioner, disposable razors, hand size soap, deodorant, shaving cream, toothpaste/toothbrush, combs/brush. Please look for a flyer in your child's back pack for the items in need.

Community Service Hours...Our 6th graders have performed 122.25 hours of service for the month of September. This is the best record yet. Way to go 6th grade!

Yearbook ...Do you like working with the computer? We are in need of one or two parents who would like to organize pictures of school activities and events for our annual yearbook. Computer software is provided by the school which makes this an easy job. If you can help, please call Julie at 345-8100.

PARENT FACULTY ASSOCIATION (PFA)... Our next meeting will be Tuesday, November 1st at 3:30 pm. Babysitting will be provided. Verdi PFA still is accepting memberships. We are encouraging every family to join the PFA for a $10.00 donation. We are hoping for 100% participation. Membership forms are available on the school's website: www.washoecountyschools.org/verdi/pfa.html. Please come and support our school.

Wednesday, November 2nd ...this will be another regular school day. Children will be dismissed at 3:15 and not the usual 2:30.

Conference Week ...Begins on Friday, November 4th and continues thru the next week of November 7th thru November 10th. Children will be dismissed on each of these days at 1:05pm.

Verdi Daily Pledge...beginning November 7th, Verdi students will begin each day by reciting the following pledge: "We come to school to be successful! In order to be successful we must work hard! Hard work equals success. We are Successful! We are Successful! We are Successful!" This is a great way to promote student effort.

Bring Someone Special to School ...Verdi families are invited to breakfast on November 23rd from 8:00-9:00. This is a nice way to meet other Verdi families, talk with staff members and visit with friends. Watch for a flyer in your child's backpack in mid-November.

BRRRRRR ... It's getting cold out there! Please be sure to have your child dressed appropriately for the upcoming winter season. With that said, as you begin to clean out your winter closet, we will take in the office any gently used snow pants, coats or boots.

Lunchroom ...Did you know that you no longer need to send money to school with your student for their lunches? You can pay your child's lunch money online at www.mylunchmoney.com. This is also a great place to check the balance of your child's account.

Spirit Wear ...thank you to everyone that purchased school spirit wear. Don't forget to send your child to school on Friday's in their Verdi wear to receive a treat during last recess! There are still some children's and adult's t-shirts and sweatshirts available in the office. Please stop by and make a purchase! If you ordered a sweat suit (top and bottom) to wear as a match set, but are unhappy with the pieces not matching, please return your sweatpants to the office by November 8th. Make sure that you have attached your child's name to the pants (safety pinned paper). Our vendor will replace these pants at no charge.

ZBEST DINING & ENTERTAINMENT DISCOUNT BOOKS ... Thank you to everyone who bought a ZBest Dining & Entertainment Discount Book. We sold 56 books and raised $336 for our school.

HALLOWEEN CANDY DRIVE ... If you should have any leftover candy you do not want, bring it to the office and it will be donated to the homeless shelter.

HOLIDAY SHOP ...Mark your calendars! Students are invited to shop for family members at Verdi Elementary School's annual Holiday Gift Shop on Saturday, December 10th from 9:00 a.m. to noon in the multi-purpose room. There will be a variety of gifts priced $5 or less.
