Conscious Discipline update...We have completed our first two modules of Conscious Discipline with parents, students and staff. Students are implementing self-monitoring techniques and reminding their teachers to do the same :) Please ask your children to share this information with you if you are unable to attend these meetings. The next module will be Encouragement on Wednesday, October 10th. Parents can attend at 2:45 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. Babysitting will be provided.

PUMPKIN PATCH FESTIVAL...Verdi Elementary Pumpkin Patch Festival is Sunday, October 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is the school's biggest fundraiser. You will see requests from your child's teacher asking for donations to the class basket for silent auction and a donation of 1 to 2 hours of your time to help make this festival a success. And, when preparing goods for the Bake Sale, please label the items that may have nuts. Be sure to invite your family and friends as this is an event you will not want to miss!

Morning Bells ...We had to make some adjustments to the morning bell schedule. Bells in the morning will ring at 9:10 for the students to line up and then again at 9:15 for the students to be in their seats ready to go. Students will have the option to run/walk a lap for the 100 lap club at their last recess at 2:15 p.m.

Verdi Library ...We need your support in helping to keep the Verdi Public Library open. Currently the public hours of the library are Wednesdays 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday's 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We would like to ask if you and your children could stop by during this time and check out books. The attendance will help us to keep our public library open! Thank you for your support!

Flyers and Notices ...We had a suggestion from one of our newest family members here at Verdi Elementary to send all flyers and notices home to only the oldest child in each family so there is not a waste of paper and families receiving two or three notices for the same thing. There will be an occasion when we will need to send a flyer home with each child, however, we have begun this practice, so please be sure to always check your children's back pack for important information. This is a great way to promote keeping our environment green.

Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows ...Need time to holiday shop or just a few hours to yourself? Just a reminder that Verdi provides an excellent before and after school program. The cost is only $3.00 before school and $5.00 after school (this includes early release days). Please help support our school by participating in this program.

PFA Meeting ...Tuesday, October 9th at 3:30 at the school. Babysitting in provided and we welcome all new faces!

Music Program ...For Kindergarten and 1st graders on Tuesday, October 23rd at 11:00 a.m. in the multi- purpose room.

Conference Week ...October 15th thru the 19th will be parent conference week. Students will be released all week at 1:05 p.m.

Nature Trail ...1st and 2nd graders will be heading out to the Nature Trail on Friday, October 19th from 11:00-12:00.

Run for Education ...Sunday, October 21st at Scheels at Legends. You should have received a flyer on Friday. Please complete the flyer and return it to the office by this Wednesday. If we have 20 students participate, Verdi Elementary greatly benefits!!

Nevada Day ...October 26th, NO SCHOOL

NO EARLY RELEASE On Wednesday, October 31st ...due to Highschool testing. Students will be in school till 3:15 on this day!

PARENT FACULTY ASSOCIATION (PFA) ...The membership drive is ongoing. Presently we have 32 family memberships. The goal is for 100% participation/involvement. We are encouraging every family to join the PFA for a $10.00 donation. PFA membership forms are available in the office. The next PFA meeting will be Tuesday October 9th at 3:30. Babysitting will be provided.

ABEL'S FUNDRAISER NIGHT...Thank you to everyone who participated in the fundraiser night. It was great to see so many Verdi families and friends come to this event. We raised $533 for our school. Thanks for making this fundraiser a success.

BOX TOPS AND LABELS FOR EDUCATION...Please bring in your Box Tops to help raise money for our school. A complete list of products can be found at www.btfe.com/products. In addition, this year we are collecting labels for Campbells, Model Dairy, and Tyson products.

HALLOWEEN CANDY DRIVE...Starting November 1st, Verdi Elementary School is sponsoring a Halloween Candy Drive. If you have any leftover candy that you do not want, bring it to the office and it will be donated to the homeless shelter.

COAT DRIVE...Do you have some old coats or has your family outgrown their coats? If so, you can drop them off in the barrel in front of the Verdi office. Verdi will be donating them to the D-Town Flight for Life Coat Drive.
