Currently Teaching: AP US History, US History, & IB History of the Americas
I attended high school in Reno and then attended California State University at San Diego, majoring in political science and English. Later I received my teaching credential from the University of Nevada, Reno. I started teaching in 1999 at Wooster High School and haven't left yet (I love it here!). Over the years, I've taught English, reading, government, U.S. history, AP U.S. history, and IB History of the Americas.
I am currently teaching junior U.S. History, AP U.S. History and IB History of the Americas. In to teaching, I am the social studies department chairperson, the scholarship chairperson, and the mock trial coach.

I started school at New Mexico State University right out of high school and then graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a Bachelor of Science in History. I have coached basketball, track, and am currently the boys' golf coach. In my spare time I like to play golf, ride my bike, and spend time with my wife and daughter.

Casey Baker graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a Bachelors Degree with High Distinction in Secondary Education in Social Studies. He is a member of the Technology Committee and he also coaches Speech and Debate.

Mr. Gifford moved to Reno from North Dakota after receiving his Bachelors in Secondary Education at Minot State University in 2004. He is set to begin working on his Masters in Educational Leadership in January of 2009 at Grand Canyon University. Mr. Gifford also coaches JV Football, and Varsity Track.

I graduated from the University Nevada Reno in 94 with a Bachelor's of Arts with an emphasis on English Literature and History and then returned to UNR to get my teaching credentials. I also have a Certificate in Irish Studies from the University College Cork, Ireland where I studied Irish Language, Literature, History and Mythology. I have taught at McQueen and Hug High School before staying home to raise my three small children. I have also scored the Nevada State Writing Proficiency Exams for nine years.
I enjoy traveling, reading and writing. I hope to incorporate these passions into the classroom and get my students to experience other cultures through the scope of literature.

Tawnya Root graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History and a minor in Political Science and Social Studies. She received her Master's Degree in Instructional Technology from Grand Canyon University. Tawnya just recently received her credential for Physical Education. Tawnya is also currently the Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach and the Head Varsity Softball Coach. As a former graduate of Wooster High School, Tawnya is very proud to still be a Colt is proud of her roots here!
