I attended high school in Reno and then attended California State University at San Diego, majoring in political science and English. Later I received my teaching credential from the University of Nevada, Reno. I started teaching in 1999 at Wooster High School and haven't left yet (I love it here!). Over the years, I've taught English, reading, government, U.S. history, AP U.S. history, and IB History of the Americas.

I am currently teaching junior U.S. History, AP U.S. History and IB History of the Americas. In to teaching, I am the social studies department chairperson, the scholarship chairperson, and the mock trial coach.

I started school at New Mexico State University right out of high school and then graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a Bachelor of Science in History.  I have coached basketball, track, and am currently the boys' golf coach.  In my spare time I like to play golf, ride my bike, and spend time with my wife and daughter.

Tawnya Root graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History and a minor in Political Science and Social Studies.  She received her Master's Degree in Instructional Technology from Grand Canyon University.  Tawnya just recently received her credential for Physical Education. Tawnya is also currently the Varsity Volleyball Assistant Coach and the Head Varsity Softball Coach.  As a former graduate of Wooster High School, Tawnya is very proud to still be a Colt is proud of her roots here!
